withinaroom(s)accessibletotheoccupantsofeachdwellingunitsharingsuch <br />facilities,withoutgoingthroughadwellingunitofanotheroccupantand <br />withoutgoingoutsideofthedwelling. <br />InSROsandroominghouses,communalfacilitiesshallbelocatedonthesame <br />floorasthedwellingunit,whoseoccupantssharetheuseofsuchfacilities. <br />7.HOTANDCOLDWATERLINESTOBATHANDKITCHEN Everydwellingshall <br />havesuppliedwaterheatingfacilitieswhichareproperlyinstalled;are <br />maintainedinworkingconditionandfreeofleaks;areproperlyconnectedto <br />anyrequiredhotwaterlines;and,arecapableofheatingwatertobedrawnfor <br />everybathaswellasgeneralusage. <br />Hotwaterstorageassociatedwithwaterheatingfacilitiesshallbenotlessthan <br />thefollowingminimumcapacities: <br />a.One(1)dwellingunit30gallons <br />b.Two(2)dwellingunits40gallons <br />c.Three(3)ormoredwellingunits <br />androominghouses50gallonsormore <br />Sizesand/ornumberofwaterheatersshallbebaseduponthenumberofunits <br />served.Nowaterheatersshallbeallowedinbathroomsorclosets.Allwater <br />heatersshallbeproperlyventedandsealedandshallbeequippedwitha <br />pressurereliefvalveanddripleg. <br />Thelocalrehabilitationdivision/departmentandortheapplicablelocalbuilding <br />inspectiondivision/departmentmayadjusttheaboverequiredcapacities <br />upwardsordownwardsbasedonthetypeandrecoverytimeofthewater <br />heaterbeinginstalled. <br />8.CONNECTIONOFSANITARYFACILITIESTOWATERANDSEWER/SEPTICSYSTEM <br />Everykitchensink,toilet,lavatorybasinandbathtub/shower,shallbe <br />maintainedinworkingconditionandbeproperlyconnectedtoanapproved <br />waterandsewerorsepticsystem. <br />9.EXITS Everyexitfromeverydwellingand/ordwellingunitshallcomplywiththe <br />followingrequirements: <br />a.Itshallbekeptinastateofmaintenanceandrepair; <br />b.Itshallbeunobstructedatalltimes; <br />c.Allstairwaysandstepsof2ormorerisersshallhaveatleast1handrail, <br />andallstairwaysandsteps,whichare 5 feetormoreinwidth,or,which <br />areopenonbothsides,shallhaveahandrailoneachside; <br />d.Everydwellingunitshallhavetwo(2)independentmeansofegress; <br />9 | Harris County Minimum Property Standards, June 2011 <br /> <br />
