The plan will focus effort into four key areas that have not been emphasized <br />in the past: cruise traffic, historical tourism, wedding tourism, and sports tourism. Staff presented <br />special initiatives that support these niche areas for Council consideration. These new initiatives <br />will help fill voids in service and provide the base from which La Porte can build upon in the future. <br />New tourism initiatives include: <br />Supporting a special event aimed at capturing cruisers that stay inLa Porte on Friday nights <br />in advance of Saturday departures ($5,300) –\[PROPOSED TO BE ELIMINATED UNTIL <br />FUTURE DATE\] <br />Transportation for Cruise Passengers and Crew ($13,000 to $18,000) <br />Battleship Texas 100th Anniversary Sponsorship ($50,000) – \[APPROVED ON 12-9-2013\] <br />Digital Signage on SH 146 ($285,000) <br />Event Venue Incentives ($14,000) <br />There were several questions regarding the shuttle service, thedigital signage, and the event venue <br />incentivesthat were asked by the Council: <br />Is the City covered by insurance for operating the shuttle? <br />What are the plans if the Parks bus/van is not available? <br />What amount of sales tax can City expect from events booked based on the incentive <br />program? <br />What are specifications/appearanceof the digital sign? <br />Staff is prepared to follow-up with the Council on these concerns. <br />A <br />ction Required by Council: <br />Consider approval or other action of the proposed FY 2014 Marketing Plan for tourism promotion. <br />Approved for City Council Agenda <br />____________________________________ _______________________ <br />Corby D.
