A to Ord.) <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br />On January 11, 2016, the City ordered a general election for May 7, 2016, for the purpose of electing <br />Councilpersons for At-Large—Position A, and Districts 4 and 5. The incumbents for these three positions <br />filed an application for a place on the ballot. No other candidate filed for these positions by the deadline, <br />nor were there any declared write-in candidates by the deadline. Pursuant to Section 2.052 of the Texas <br />Election Code, the City Secretary has certified these candidates as unopposed and has attached a copy of <br />the certification to the proposed Ordinance as Exhibit A. <br />For Council's consideration is an ordinance declaring candidates John Zemanek, Kristin Martin, and Jay <br />Martin duly elected to the respective offices shown: <br />John Zemanek – Councilperson-at-large—Position A <br />Kristin Martin – Councilperson—District 4 <br /> Jay Martin – Councilperson—District 5 <br />Each candidate will be issued a certificate of election in the same manner and at the same time as provided <br />for a candidate elected at the general election should there have been one; and cancelling the May 7, 2016, <br />general election. <br />special election <br />There will still be a held for the purpose of deciding whether to extend the La Porte Fire <br />Control, Prevention, and Emergency Medical Services District. <br />Action Required by Council: <br />Consider approval or other action regarding an ordinance cancelling the May 7, 2016, general election, and <br />declaring the candidate for Councilperson At-Large—A, the candidate for Councilperson—District 4, and <br />the candidate for Councilperson—District 5 unopposed; and declaring John Zemanek, candidate for <br />Councilperson-at-large—Position A, elected; declaring Kristin Martin, candidate for Councilperson— <br />District 4, elected; and declaring Jay Martin, candidate for Councilperson—District 5, elected. <br />Approved for City Council Agenda <br />Corby D.
