An item for valve replacement was approved by LPAWA Board and City <br />Council in the FY 2019-20 Budget. <br />Bids were opened on May 21, 2020 for LPAWA Transmission Valve Replacement project -CLP <br />Bid #20015.Thegeneral scope of work consists of replacing three (3) gate valves, ranging from <br />6inchto 20 inch diameter, flush valve,associated fittings and restraints with thrust blocking. <br />The valves and all fittings are 250 pressure class.The depth of the work and site conditions <br />exceed capabilities of city-owned equipment. This work will require a temporary shutdown of <br />the transmission system and will be coordinated with customers during a low-demand period. <br />Fifty-seven(57) bidders were notified of the bid opportunity, with thirty-three(33) downloading <br />the bid documents, and one(1)bidder responding.The bidwas submitted by Android <br />Construction Services, LLCin the amount of eighty-four thousand,five-hundred dollars <br />($84,500.00).Android Constructionperformed a similar project of this type, earlier this year for the <br />La Porte Area Authoritywith excellent results. The bid costs are also consistent withthe previous <br />workperformed.Staff recommends approval of this bid with an added project contingency of <br />$8,450 (10%),for a total authorization amount of $92,950.00. <br />Benefits: <br />Replacement of the aging water valveswillimprove reliability in operation of the <br />transmission system.Proper and complete isolation of the system is required for leak <br />testing and maintenance tasks. <br /> <br />Liabilities: <br /> <br />
