New Construction (LEED-NC), through reduced plan review <br />fees or review times, reduced tax rates, etc. <br />13) Consider pursuing third -party certification, e.g., LEED-NC, for <br />the design and construction of all new municipal projects. <br />Similar to the energy efficient and environmentally sound <br />Municipal Court Building, these sustainable projects can be <br />used as educational features (to inform residents about the <br />science and conservation efforts behind the pilot project), as <br />well as resulting in financial savings over the long-term, <br />Beyond standard building features, consider using municipal <br />projects as demonstration sites for such things as innovative <br />rainwater capture and treatment, xeriscaping, energy <br />production, etc. <br />14) Establish community drop-off recycling locations in each park. <br />As a long-term strategy, coordinate with Waste Management <br />to establish curbside recycling. <br />15) Continue participating in the Harris -Galveston Coastal Subsidence <br />District's program for educating elementary students about water <br />conservation. <br />16) Adopt a more proactive approach to educating the development <br />community and the general public including the use public property as <br />demonstration sites or including specific pages on the City's Website that <br />details the established public education program on water saving <br />measures, including how and where to <br />F®,F . , ®, ® , , , ®- find additional information. <br />A COMMUNIT— VISION FOR 1A PORTE, TEXAS - 2010 UPDATE <br />
