Group Care Facilities <br />Zoning Ordinance Amendment <br />Page 4of 12 <br />Analysis <br />Table Aneeds amendment to reflect group care facilities as “protected”, “excepted” or <br />“typical for residential use”. <br />An evaluation of the listed establishments in Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) <br />Industry Group # 836 (residential care), Industry #8361is required. <br />To ensure visual compatibility with residential neighborhoods, current sign regulations <br />should be amended to coordinate with all residential zones in Table A. <br />Utilize the current 1,000 feet distance regulation in Table A, but amend the table to <br />include all residential zones. <br />Recommended Requirements <br />Amend the group care facilities definition. <br />Amend group care facility requirements in Table A (Uses) & Table B (Area <br />Requirements) with accompanying criteria <br />Amend sign regulations to address use of group care facility signage within all residential <br />neighborhoods <br />Consider “draft” application for issuance of a Group Care Facility Registration <br />Certificate (See Attached) <br />Sect. 106-1. Definitions. <br />Group care facilitiesmeans residential facilities providing food and shelter to persons who are <br />unrelated to the proprietor of the establishment, designed to provide a transition from traditional <br />treatment facilities to normal daily living for special populations such as the elderly, mentally <br />handicapped, physically handicapped, or substance users. These facilities include but are not <br />limited to half-way houses and group homes. <br /> <br />
