<br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING DRAFT SEPTEMBER 20, 2012 <br />Emergency Medical Services (EMS) <br />Bike Medic Team <br />Basic and advanced emergency life support services are provided <br /> <br />the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department, which covers <br />an approximate area of 75 square miles of incorporated, <br />unincorporated, and contracted areas (consisting of Bayport, <br />Battleground, Port of Houston Barbours Cut Terminal, and <br />-). The EMS Department consists of 26 full-time staff <br />and three part-time staff consisting of a Chief, Assistant Chief <br />Captains, 21 paramedics (), EMS interns, and a billing <br />specialist. The EMS Department utilizes five Mobile Intensive Ca <br />Unit (MICU) ambulances in its fleet and has two MICU ambulances <br /> <br />on-duty at all times, along with Advanced Life Support (ALS) first <br /> <br />In 2003, the City implemented a bike <br />responder vehicles. EMS Headquarters is located at 10428 Spencer <br />medic team which is used on a part- <br />Highway and was built in 2007. Outside of emergency response, the EMS <br />Department offers a number of programs to increase public awaren <br />health and safety of the community, including blood pressure tra <br />childhood immunizations, child safety seat inspections, DWI awar <br />programs, and others. <br /> <br />As the community grows, the EMS Department sees its biggest chal <br />being able to attract and retain qualified paramedics.
