Planning and Zoning Commission Regular Meeting <br />May 17, 2018 <br />Comprehensive Plan Update <br /> <br /> <br />Planning and Development Department <br />Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />ISSUE <br /> <br />Should the Planning and Zoning Commission recommend approval of the proposed <br />updates to the City of La Porte Comprehensive Plan 2030, to the City Council? <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br /> <br />The current City of La Porte Comprehensive Plan serves as the officially adopted guide for <br />City policy decisions relating to the physical growth and development of La Porte through <br />2030, including discussion of opportunities and challenges, vision, goals, actions, policies, <br />and strategies. <br /> <br />The budget for fiscal year 2017 included funding for a minor (5 year) <br />Comprehensive Plan 2030. The City contracted Kendig Keast Collaborative, who <br />performed the 2012 update, to take on this task. The consultant, in collaboration with city <br />staff, decided to focus the minor update on the implementation section of the current <br />comprehensive plan. Staff looked at the 16 priorities previously compiled and updated <br />the status. Finally, based on current trends and developments from the past 5 years, staff <br />suggested a reorganization of the priority list. <br /> <br />nd <br />The Planning and Zoning Commission held a workshop on March 22. At the workshop, <br />the commission suggested some changes to the proposed new ranking of priorities. <br />These suggestions have been incorporated into the final draft. <br /> <br />Below is a chart showing the proposed changes: <br />1 <br /> <br />
