<br />Preparing for Tomorrow by Planning Today <br /> <br />Comprehensive Plan Update, 2000-2020 <br /> <br />The La Porte 2020 Comprehensive Plan is an official public document that acts as a general <br />guide for how the City should grow and operate over a 20 year interval. The Comprehensive <br />Plan plays many important roles in shaping the future of the community by: <br /> <br />. Serving as a general "guideline" for future development and redevelopment in and <br />around the City with an emphasis on improving the community's desirability as a place to <br />live, work, play and shop. <br />. Documenting the character of the community, as well as anticipated issues, trends, <br />opportunities, and challenges facing the City. <br />· Providing a common vision supported by a series of goals and objectives. <br />· Defining policies to guide daily decision-making regarding the City's physical and <br />economic growth. <br />· Establishing strategies for aggressive implementation that emphasize action and results. <br /> <br />The Authority to Plan <br /> <br />Though Texas state law does not require all municipalities to maintain a comprehensive plan, <br />cities that adopt zoning regulations must do so "in accordance with a comprehensive plan." <br />(Texas Local Government Code S 211.004). <br /> <br />2020 Comprehensive Plan <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Serves as the officially adopted guide for City policy decisions relating to the physical <br />growth and economic development of La Porte through 2020, including discussion of <br />opportunities and challenges, vision, goals, actions, policies, and strategies. <br />Addresses a variety of elements, including Land Use, Community Profile, Transportation, <br />Parks and Recreation, Housing/Residential Development, Beautification and <br />Conservation, Public Safety, Utility Infrastructure Systems, Redevelopment Strategy and <br />Implementation. <br />Focuses upon a broad range of issues and opportunities that impact public health, <br />welfare, and safety that can range from access to parks to disaster preparedness. <br />Addresses a variety of issues in a general and long term manner to assist in determining <br />general locations for revitalization, new growth, road and infrastructure improvements, <br />parks, and other public facilities. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br />
