Box 1115 <br />LaPorte, Texas 77571 <br />Dear Mayor Meza: <br />Boh BuillacL <br />Cion,Pbmller of Phlic Accounts <br />Anstin3exas 78774 <br />August 9, 1978 <br />C <br />Please let me call your attention to a rapidly approaching critical date -- <br />September 10 --for the city council's decision on your city sales tax under <br />the tax relief bill signed today by Governor Briscoe. <br />September 10 is the deadline for the council to notify us if you wish to <br />repeal the 1% city tax on residential gas and electric bills on October 1, <br />the earliest effective date of the new law. <br />• As you are aware, the new law repeals the 4% state portion of the sales tax <br />on residential gas and electric bills on October 1. <br />I am attaching guidelines explaining the council's options for keeping or <br />repealing the tax if the council doesn't act by the September 10 deadline. <br />Whatever your council's decision, i would very much appreciate hearing from <br />you at the earliest possible time so we can assist you, the taxpayers and <br />the utility companies in getting ready for the new system. <br />If we can provide assistance to you on these matters, please don't hesitate <br />to call.
