ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE PORTION OF <br />SEVENTEENTH (17TH) STREET LYING WITHIN THE AREA BOUNDED BY <br />WEST "B" STREET AND WEST "C" STREET, AND BETWEEN BLOCK SEVEN <br />HUNDRED SIXTY-ONE (761) AND BLOCK SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY-TWO (762), <br />IN THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, AND VACATING, <br />ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE ALLEYS LYING WITHIN BLOCK SEVEN <br />HUNDRED SIXTY-ONE (761) AND SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY-TWO (762) IN <br />THE TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of La Porte has <br />been requested by the record owners of all of the property <br />abutting Seventeenth (17th) Street between West "B" Street and <br />West "C" Street, to vacate, abandon, and permanently close <br />that portion of Seventeenth (17th) Street; and <br />WHEREAS, the said portion of Seventeenth (17th) Street <br />between West "B" Street and West "C" Street has never been <br />• opened or used as a public road or street; and <br />WHEREAS, said portion of Seventeenth (17th) Street is <br />one block West of and parallel to Sixteenth (16th) Street, <br />which is a main traffic artery and thoroughfare in the City <br />of La Porte, and the said Sixteenth (16th) Street will in the <br />future continue to furnish all needed access and thoroughfare <br />for traffic of any nature; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of La Porte has <br />determined and does hereby find, determine and declare that <br />the hereinafter described portion of Seventeenth (17th) Street <br />is not suitable, needed, or beneficial to the public as a <br />public road or street, and that the closing of the hereinafter <br />described portion of Seventeenth (17th) Street is for the <br />• protection of the public and for the public benefit, and that <br />such portion of Seventeenth (17th) Street should be vacated, <br />abandoned and permanently closed; and <br />WHEREAS, the said alleys in said Blocks Seven Hundred <br />Sixty-one (761) and Seven Hundred Sixty-two (762) have never <br />been opened or used as public thoroughfares, and the public <br />utilities now making use of such alleys have all given their <br />• written consents for their closing; and <br />
