<br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br />INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM <br />T0: Jerry L~H~odge, Director of Public Worlcs DATE: January 11, 1982 <br />FROM: Dick Raot;~Equipment Services Superintendent <br />SUBJECT: Motor Replacement <br />Unit 703-2, 1979 Ford sideloader is equipped with a side diesel 3 cylinder <br />industrial engine, which operates the lift for containers. <br />January 5, 1982, vehicle was brought in to Vehicle i~iaintenance and found to <br />require a complete overhaul on side engine. <br />G]ith 132 sideloading containers, we attempted to borrow from neighboring <br />cities, plus possible rental with negative results. We called Hatze Equipment <br />Company in Oklahoma City for the required parts. They stated a minimum of ten <br />(10) days on delivery and no guarantee that all required parts would be available. <br />We also discussed a new engine and was quoted $5,000 plus $300 air freight. <br />At this time, we contacted Eberling Manufacturing in Plainview, Texas, which <br />quoted $4,477.99. <br />Based on the downtime which would have exceeded three (3) weeks and being a <br />critical piece of equipment, a decision was made to purchase and pick up the <br />engine, resulting in four (4) days downtime. <br />Funds for the abovementioned motor were available in the budget. <br />If you find you should have any questions, please advise. <br />DR/lw <br />C: <br />
