ADMINISTRATION •

s
•
CITY OF LA PORTE
INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM
T0: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: JACK OWEN
DATE: 5-2.7-83
SUBJECT: SEALED BID ~~0007 COMPUTER SITE PREPARATION AND TRANSFORMER
Sealed bids for the selection of an electrical contractor to wire the Data Processing
Room and for the purchase of a 25KVA shielded isolation transformer - power
conditioner were opened and read in City Council Chambers May 24, 1983 at 4:00 p.m.
These two items were bid using the specifications recommended by Data General for
the City's MV 8000 computer unit, its peripheral hardware, and the roof mounted air
conditioning unit.
In reviewing the bids, I recommend we accept the low bid of $3,234.82, submitted by
Bayshore Electric of La Porte, Texas, for performing the needed electrical work, and
• recommend accepting the bid submitted by Tex-All Electrical Contractors for the
Oneac transformer in the amount of $14,500.00.
The bid proposal by Tex-All Electrical Contractors for the Oneac transformer was not
the low bid. I recommend it over.-the others for the following reasons. Of the three
(3) transforme::.bids submitted for consideration, only the Oneac Model ~6CS 31240
has the ability to deal with voltage fluctuations and transients at a speed compatible
with our computer. The Oneac also produces ten (10)times less heat in operation than
the Sola transformer, saving a substantial amount in air conditioning costs. Oneac
will fully warranty the unit for five (5) years and cover completely most servicing on
the premises. Topaz and Sola will warranty their units for one year only and they
require that the unit be returned to the factory for servicing.
Funds are available for meeting the above requests. I ask for your favorable
consideration on this recommendation. Should you need further information, please
advise.
attachment
•
