_ ..~ .~~ <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />NCE AMENDING ARTICLE II, SECTION I9, OF THE CODE OF <br />AN ORDINA <br />ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; BRINGING SAID CODE SECTION <br />INTO CONFORMITY WITH ARTICLE II, SECTION 2.09(d), OF THE HOME <br />RULE CHARTER, BY PROVIDING THAT MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING AND <br />ZONING COMMISSION SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL; <br />CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br />Section 1. Article II, Section 2-19, of the Code of Ordi- <br />nances of the City of La Porte is hereby amended to read as <br />follows, to-wit: <br />"Sec. 2-19. Appointment of members by City <br />Council; qua i ications; terms. <br />"The members of h Planning and Zoning <br />Commission shall be ointed by the City <br />Council. <br />"Members f Planning and ning <br />Commiss on sh be resident e ec ors of the <br />City o a e at the their appoint- <br />ment, an nti uously uri heir terms of <br />. offi A Dist ict me er f lanning and <br />Zoni ommis shall be a resident of his <br />District at th ime of his appointment and <br />continuously d ring his term of office. <br />"The Planning and Zoning Commission <br />shall consist of a member from each of the <br />six (6) Council Districts, and a Chairman, <br />for a total of seven (7) members. The <br />term of the six (6) members from the six <br />(6) Council Districts shall coincide caith <br />the term of office of the Councilperson <br />for said District. The term of office for <br />the Chairman shall coincide with the term <br />of office of the Mayor of the City of <br />La Porte. <br />"The term of each member shall terminate on <br />April thirtieth of the year in which the term <br />expires, or when his successor has been, <br />appointed and qualified." <br />Section 2. If any section, sentence, phrase, clause, or <br />any part of any section, sentence, phrase, or clause, of this <br />ordinance shall, for any reason, be held invalid, such invalidity <br />shall not affect the remaining portions of this Ordinance, and <br />it is hereby declared to be the intention of this City Council <br />
