• • <br />Educational Facilities <br />The La Porte Independent School District provides the residents of the City of La <br />Porte with excellent school facilities. The School District, which operates five <br />elementary schools, two junior high schools and one senior high school, is fully <br />accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the Southern Association of 'Colleges and <br />Schools. All of the school facilities are fully air-conditioned and centrally heated <br />and are furnished with modern educational equipment. <br />As of January 1984 the School District had a student enrollment of 6,779 and the 1983 <br />Assessed Valuation is in excess of S2 billion. The School District carries a rating _ <br />of "Aa" by Moody 's Investors Service, Inc. and "AA" by Standard b Poor's Corporation. <br />La Porte I.S.D. <br />Main Campus <br />Higher Education Facilities <br />Higher education is provided by the San Jacinto Junior College District which <br />encompasses about 289 square miles in southeast Harris County, including the City of <br />La Porte. The College District has three campuses; the Main Campus located adjacent <br />to the City of La Porte on its west side; the North Campus located north of the <br />Houston ship channel, and the South Campus located just southwest of Pasadena within <br />the city limits of the City of Houston. San Jacinto College Offers two year <br />educational programs leading to Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degrees. <br />In nearby Houston are the University of Houston, Rice University, Texas Southern <br />University, St. Thomas University and Houston Baptist College, all of which offer full <br />four year as well as post-graduate programs. <br />~~ <br />
