Q. What must a community do to assure continued availability of flood <br />insurance locally? (46) <br /> <br />14. <br /> <br />A. The community must adopt and enforce flood plain management measures <br />aimed at reducing future flood losses. These measures must comply at <br />a minimum with the standards of the Program. <br /> <br />Q. What is meant by "flood plain management"? (47) <br /> <br />A. "Flood plain,management" means the operation of an overall community <br />program of corrective and preventive measures for reducing flood damage, <br />including (but not limited to) emergency preparedness plans and other <br />measures aimed at the present and future use of the flood plain. Flood <br />plain management includes specific local codes and ordinances which provide <br />standards for the location and design of new development ~/ithin flood-prone <br />areas. These measures may be adopted in any manner that is legally <br />enforceable for a particular community. Typically, they take the form of <br />zoning, subdivision or building requirements, or a special purpose flood <br />plain ordinance. <br />
