D., <br />ATTORNEY AT LAW <br /> <br />TELEPHONE <br />713 471-1886 <br /> <br />September 12, 1985 <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />City of La Porte <br />City Hall <br />La Porte, Texas 77571 <br /> <br />Dear Ladies and <br /> <br /> <br />~ <br />1 <br /> <br />I have asked to place on the regular meeting agenda of <br />September 23 985, for final action, the adoption of a Re-Districting <br />Map and establishment of polling places within the Districts. <br /> <br />Due to computer problems, we have had a more than thirty (30) day <br />time slippage on our schedule of final adoption of the Re-Districting <br />Plan, and filing of the brief with the Justice De'partment in Washington. <br />vHth adoption of a Re-Districting Map and Polling Places by Council <br />on September 23, and filing of the brief within two (2) weeks there- <br />after, we can still meet our time table, and have the Districts in <br />place for the April, 1986 election filings. <br /> <br />I have no particular map to recommend to you. Each of the maps <br />presented to you have their own strengths and weaknesses with respect <br />to complying with the criteria which I outlined to you at the public <br />hearing, and previously to the Committee. <br /> <br />I am hopeful that we can have all nine (9) Council Members present for <br />the September 23rd meeting. Of course, this is not a matter which <br />can be legally discussed in executive session. Any of the maps which <br />have been presented to you previously could be acted upon, or, if any <br />Member of Council would like to present an additional proposal, I am <br />sure that staff will be happy to assist in preparing a prosposal. <br /> <br />Knox W.
