COLLECTIONS Resolution Exhibits: Calculation of Effective Tax Rate SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION Ordinance State property tax laws require if the proposed tax rate goes over the three percent limit above the Effective Tax Rate, the governing body must take a record vote on a ~~proposal to consider the tax increaset~. The governing body must also schedule a public hearing on the proposal. This hearing must be at least seven days after the vote and published notice for public hearing. Following the public hearing at a later date the governing body may hold a public meeting to adopt the rate and pass the tax rate ordinance. The tax rate proposed ($.66/$100) is three percent above the Effective Rate and will invoke the public hearing and notice requirements. Council may consider November 2, 1987 for a public hearing date. The following regular meeting of November g, 1987 would be the first date available for adoption of the tax rate. The notice requirements specify results of this vote will be published with the meeting notices normally required. Action Required by Council: Formal motion by Council calling for proposal to consider the tax rate increase above the Effective Rate and date set for public hearing.
