<br />e <br /> <br />A'ITACHMENT III <br />HUMANE OFFICER <br /> <br />e CITY OF LA PORTE <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />To enforce City ordinances governing the licensing, impounding, and <br />shelter of animals; and to collect and transport animals to the <br />appropriate impounding location. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />Recei ves general superv is ion from a Pol ice Lieutenant. Funct ional <br />supervision is provided by a Police Sergeant. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the <br />following: <br /> <br />Patrol streets and roads in a small truck and look for stray dogs <br />and other animals. <br /> <br />Explain ordinances relating to animals to the public. <br /> <br />Collect and transport stray or injured animals to animal shelter as <br />necessary. <br /> <br />Perform operational activities at animal shelter, including cleaning <br />kennels, feeding animals, and responding to public inquiries. <br /> <br />Humanely dispose of sick and injured animals. <br /> <br />Investigate reports or complaints of dogs, cats, or other animals <br />creating nuisances and take appropriate action. <br /> <br />Issue citations to owners of nuisance-creating animals. <br /> <br />Interview victims, complainants, and witnesses; gather and preserve <br />evidence. <br /> <br />Recognize animal diseases and symptoms. <br /> <br />Remove dead animals from public roads and perform proper disposal <br />activities. <br /> <br />Maintain and clean animal control vehicle, shelter, and related <br />equipment. <br /> <br />Testify in court as necessary. <br /> <br />Prepare and maintain a yariety of records and reports. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />
