• • <br />HEALTH-PUBLIC Art. 4436b <br />Title 71 <br />ARTICLE I. GENERAL PROVISIONS <br />Short title <br />Section 1.01. This Act shall be known and may be cited as the Local Public <br />Health Reorganization Act. <br />Purpose <br />Sec. 1.02. The legislature finds that in the interest of promoting effective <br />local public health programs. it is desirable to combine prior legislative authoriza- <br />tion into one Act which-wily provide a consistent, yet flexible, framework for the <br />administration of local public health programs throughout the state. <br />Definitions <br />Sec. 1.03. As used in this Act, unless the context otherwise requires: <br />(1) "Board" means the Texas Board of Health. <br />(2) "Commissioner" means the Commissioner of Health. <br />(3) "Department" means the Texas Department of Health. <br />(4) "Director" means the chief administrative officer of a public health district <br />or a local health department. <br />(5) "Health authority" means the physician who is to administer state and local <br />laws relating to public health. <br />(6) "Local health department" means a department of health created by the <br />governing body of an incorporated municipality or the commissioners court of a <br />county pursuant to Section 4.07 of this Act. <br />(?) "Member" means a municipality, a county, or other governmental entity <br />which is a participant in a public health district. <br />(8) "Physician" means a person licensed to practice medicine by the Texas <br />State Board of Medical Examiners. <br />(9) "Public health board" means an administrative or an advisory board of a <br />public health district or a local health department. <br />(10) "Public health district" means a department of health established under <br />Article IV of this Ac1;. <br />(11) "Region" means a geographic area of the State of Texas as may be <br />determined by the department. <br />(12) "Regional director" means the physician who is the chief administrative <br />officer of a region. <br />(13) "Representative" is a person appointed to serve on a public health board <br />of a public health district or a local health department. <br />(14) "Local health unit" means a division of city or county government that <br />provides limited public health services as provided by Section 4.09 of this Act. <br />235 <br />
