Herrera Department: Administration Report Resolution x Ordinance Exhibits: SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION The attached contract is one whereby the city is contracting office space with Confrontation Church of God in Christ then subleasing the property to the Texas Department of Human Services. Please recall at one time the Texas Department of Human Services leased from the City of La Porte office space adjacent to the Police Department. Sometime in 1991 they moved their offices out of La Porte into Bay town. The Texas Department of Human Services has made a commitment to reopen a food stamp division of their agency in La Porte. The office will be open twice a week for the next eight (8) months. The Department of Human Services has also committed to expanding the services they offer in La Porte on a long term basis. They are currently negotiating with Reverend Joe Lewis for such an opportunity. I truly believe this agreement will benefit many. · Those in need of social services Church is provided with new steady income stream The City's Police Department has additional office space to meet growth by assuming the space once occupied by Texas Department of Human Services The City's role in this arrangement is one whereby we recognize a need within the community that can be better fulfilled by another public agency and put the parties together. The city is not spending any money nor does the ci ty make any money on this proposal.
