R~ST FOR CITY COUNCIL AGEN~ITEM
Agenda Date Requested: 1~pri1 13, 1992
Requested By: S. Gillett Department: Public Works
XXXX Report Resolution Ordinance
Exhibits: Proposal for Professional Engineering Services
SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION
On February 5, 1992, severe hydrogen sulfide corrosion at Lift Station 30
was discovered. The main contributing factor appeared to be the force main
entering the wet well from the Lomax area at the top of the structure.
Manning Engineering was contacted to evaluate the situation and recommend
corrective action.
The evaluation was completed in March 1992 for a cost of $2,150. The
Engineer recommended the force main be diverted to the Fairmont Parkway
Trunk Sewer as soon as possible. The diversion will reduce corrosion and
pumping costs, as well as relieve surcharging in the Fairmont Park gravity
sewer system. Repairs to the wet well can be deferred until next year, to
allow budgeting. Additionally, diversion of the Creekmont and Glen Meadows
force mains from the gravity system to the Lomax force main was also
recommended. These diversions will be accomplished with city crews.
Manning Engineering has submitted a proposal to perform the necessary
design to bid this project. Total engineering cost is as follows.
Design Phase $4,500
Bidding Phase 500
Construction Phase 200
Total Engineering $5,200
Estimated Additional Services - Not to exceed on hourly basis
Design Review/Approval $ 800
Construction Inspection 900
Total Additional Services $1,700
Total Authorization $6.900
No funds are available in the Utility Operating Fund for this project. It
is recommended that funds be appropriated from the Utility Contingency Fund
for design and construction.
Action Required by Council: Authorize the City Manager to enter a contract
with Manning Engineering Corporation for the design of Lift Station 30
Force Main Diversion for a total cost of $6,900, and appropriate the
necessary fund from the Utility Contingency Fund.
Availability of Funds:
General Fund Water/Wastewater
Capital Improvement General Revenue Sharing
XXXX Other (Utility Contingency Fund)
Account Number: Funds Available: YES NO
A rov r C~t Cou it e d
~~
Ro r T. errera D
C~ y Manager
