<br />. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM <br /> <br />AGENDA DATE REQUESTED October 12. 1992 <br /> <br />REQUESTED BY John Joerns <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT Assistant City Manager <br /> <br />x <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />ORDINANCE <br /> <br />EXHIBITS: Letter from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company <br />Information Packet submitted to Southwestern Bell <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />On August 31, 1992, the City received notification from Southwestern Bell that <br />the City was the recipient of Southwestern Bell's Economic Excellence Award <br />Program grant. The grant is in the amount of $10,000 and was the result of a <br />submission by the City requesting funding for a Bayfront Master Plan. The <br />grant amount of $10,000 is the maximum amount awarded by Bell. <br /> <br />The scope of the Bayfront Master Plan includes a review of existing planning <br />data and exploration of La Porte's potential for future development or <br />redevelopment as a community that utilizes and promotes the attributes of <br />Galveston Bay. The plan is expected to include the following: <br /> <br />· Identify water front properties desirable for, but not limited to <br />the development of: marina, water sports complex, full service <br />conference hotel, waterside restaurants, and offices; <br /> <br />· Supplement residential access to the bayfront through zoning <br />controls, including, but not limited to: single family low density <br />residential and high density residential; <br /> <br />· Review present zoning and development ordinances and La Porte <br />planning documents, to insure that targeted development goals are <br />realistic and obtainable; <br /> <br />· Inventory current vacant land available for development, and land <br />available for future development and/or redevelopment; and <br /> <br />· Formulate and adopt an action plan with alternatives for public <br />and/or private development of leisure/recreational facilities along <br />the bay shoreline. <br /> <br />The City will need to contribute $15,000 as matching funds for the grant. The <br />City's portion will come from the donation made by Mr. Berdon Lawrence in <br />1987. The total amount of Mr. Lawrence's donation (including interest earned) <br />is $137,207.80 at September 30, 1992 <br /> <br />ACTION REQUIRED BY COUNCIL: <br /> <br />Amend the Capital Improvement Fund (015) Budget by $25,000.
