Council considered an ordinance accepting a resignation and making an appointment to the Fire Code Review Committee of the city of La Porte. city Attorney read: ORDINANCE 94-1999 - AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A RESIGNATION AND MAKING AN APPOINTMENT TO THE FIRE CODE REVIEW COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. As written it accepts the resignation of Delbert Walker and appoints Louis Heintschel to District 1 of the Fire Code Review Committee for a term ending on May 30, 1996. Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland that the ordinance be approved as read by the city Attorney. Second by Councilperson McLaughlin. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, Clarke Malone None Thrower, and Mayor Nays: 20. Council considered a resolution authorizing the City of La Porte, Texas, to join in the formation and operation of a coalition of cities concerning the electric rates of Houston Lighting and Power Company; authorizing such coalition to intervene on behalf of the City of La Porte in Public utility Commission Docket No. 12065 and to take other appropriate actions relating to electric utility rates. city Attorney read: RESOLUTION 94-08 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, TO JOIN IN THE FORMATION AND OPERATION OF A COALITION OF CITIES CONCERNING THE ELECTRIC RATES OF HOUSTON LIGHTING AND POWER COMPANY; AUTHORIZING SUCH COALITION TO INTERVENE ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE IN PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION DOCKET NO. 12065 AND TO TAKE OTHER APPROPRIATE ACTIONS RELATING TO ELECTRIC UTILITY RATES; MAKING CERTAIN FINDINGS AND TAKING OTHER ACTIONS RELATING THERETO; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilperson Thrower to approve Resolution 94-08 as presented. Second by councilperson Clarke. The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays.
