<br />APPENDIX <br /> <br />CARDIAC ARREST WHILE ENROUTE <br />THE PARAMEDIC MUST USE HIS/HER OWN GOOD JUDGEMENT TO DECIDE WHETHER TO <br />CONTINUE TO THE TRAUMA CENTER OR TO DIVERT TO A CLOSER FACILITY. <br />FACTORS TO CONSIDER: <br />1. TRANSPORT TIME TO THE TRAUMA CENTER. <br />2. TIME REQUIRED TO DIVERT TO ANOTHER FACILITY. <br />3. THE LOCAL FACILITY BEING UNPREPARED DUE TO A QUICK ARRIVAL. <br />CRITICAL MEDICAL CONDITIONS <br />DEFINITIONS: ANY PATIENT PRESENTING WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: <br />1. CRITICAL CARDIAC PATIENTS (HEMODYNAMICALLY UNSTABLE) <br />2. RESPIRATORY ARREST, RESPIRATORY DISTRESS <br />3. CRITICAL DIABETIC EMERGENCY <br />4. UNCONSCIOUS <br />5. CRITICAL OVERDOSE OR POISONING <br />6. CRITICAL OB COMPLICATIONS <br />7. CARDIAC ARREST <br />8. SHOCK <br />9. ANY OTHER CRITICAL MEDICAL CONDITION <br />Will be transported to the closest, open, medical facility. <br />Do not accept a diversion request from the nearest open emergency <br />department when transporting a CRITICAL MEDICAL PATIENT. <br />-13- <br />
