<br />r. . <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />"0 ............. :...:...........::.. <br /> <br />Resolution No. .R-97-26 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TI-IE CITY OF MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS, <br />EXPRESSING ITS DESm.E TO CHANGE THE POLICY OF THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORTATION (TxDoT) FOR CITIES TO INSTALL, MAINTAIN, AND OPERATE <br />TRAFFIC SIGNALS WITHIN THEm. CORPORATE LIMITS TO CITIES WITH A <br />POPULATION OF 100,000 OR GREATER. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the current state policy regarding the instaHation, maintenance, and operation of <br />traffic signals on the state highway system in incorporated cities of less than 50,000 population <br />calls for Texas DepartmenCQf.Trans.p-QrtatiQn CT.x.QQTt!9 qe !".esp_onsible for such duties when <br />requested by the city council, mayor, or city manager; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such policy forces moderately sized cities to face exponential1eaps in the quantity <br />of traffic signals they will have to assume responsibility for maintaining and operating; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has been determined by City Council that it is more appropriate for TxDoT to <br />own, operate, and maintain traffic signals and associated devices on roadway facilities within the <br />corporate city limits until such city reaches a population of 100,000 or more when cities will <br />have enough resources to handle such an increase in responsibility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the costs associated with said transfer will be a large burden on such cities; now <br />therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS: <br /> <br />Section 1. <br /> <br />That the facts and recitations set fOlth in the preamble of this resolution <br /> <br />are hereby found to be tme and correct. <br /> <br />Section 2. <br /> <br />, , <br />That the City Council of the City of Missouri CIty, Tex.as, hereby <br /> <br />expresses it support that the state policy be changed to set the population levels at less than <br /> <br />. \ <br /> <br />100,000 for incorporated cities for which the Texas Department of Transportation installs, <br /> <br />maintains, and operates traffic signals upon request by the city council, mayor, or city manager. <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br />That the City Council of the City of Missouri City, Texas, hereby <br /> <br />authorizes the City Manager and City Secretary or their designees to notify the Texas Municipal <br /> <br />League and pertinent legislators of the City of Missouri City's position on this topic ~lI1d to take <br />
