Exhibit "B" -Utility Plan <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br />Current plans for development of the City's new library facility require that the <br />existing 16' wide alley within Block 132, Town of La Porte be vacated, abandoned <br />and closed in order to facilitate construction of the building and related site <br />improvements. <br />The City's Planning and Public Works Departments have investigated the closing <br />and determined that an existing 1 "waterline within the alley should be abandoned. <br />Additionally, each of the City's franchised utility companies have reviewed the <br />closing request and have plans in place to modify existing power, telephone and <br />cable utility locations from the alley to conform to the new library site (see Exhibit <br />"B"1. A cost of 55,260 will be incurred by the City from Reliant Energy for the <br />cost of relocating existing power lines in the alley. Southwestern Bell .and Time <br />Warner Communication will relocate their respective facilities at no cost to the <br />City. As per Sec. 62-32, Subsection C, and Sec. 62-35, Subsection C, of the <br />Code of Ordinances, the City is exempted from the payment of an application fee <br />as well as fair market value fees, respectively. <br />Upon action by Council to vacate, abandon, and close the alley, Staff will submit <br />the Final Plat of this block to the Planning & Zoning Commission for approval. <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends closing, vacating, and abandoning the alley in Block 132, Town <br />of La Porte for construction of the new City Library. <br />Action Reauired by Council: <br />Consider approval of an ordinance to close, vacate, and abandon the alley in Block <br />132, Town of La Porte. <br />Availability of Funds: N/A <br />Approved for City Council Agenda <br />CZa~~ ~ • 1~:~~ a-1o- a~uo <br />Robert T.
