The first being the Master kit which provides the necessary
equipment to apply the reagent, the necessary filter to photograph and record the evidence, and the filters
to convert our labs current light source to the proper frequencies. The cost for this portion will be
$2770.00.
The second component is the Polilight PL500 that is used to illuminate trace evidence once it has been
treated by the reagent. The Polilight PL500 will illuminate entire walls and rooms and will allow
investigators to photograph the evidence so that they can record in a medium that is visible to the naked
eye. The Polilight also has proven beneficial in locating old bruises and wounds on victims even after
they have healed and are no longer visible. The Polilight due to its range of light frequencies also allows
the evidence technicians to locate other fluid and fiber evidence. This piece of equipment will cost
$16,625.00. Southwestern Engineering and Equipment is the exclusive agent for the Polilight PL500.
Total Project Cost: $19,395.00
Action Required by Council: The Police Department is requesting approval to purchase the Flourescien
Evidence Enhancement Kit utilizing budgeted funds.
A ro for City Council Agenda
R4 44 4yz- A71
o Aeft T. a era, City Manager
Date
