• Update existing Alternate Light Source (ALS) with appropriate filters
The second component is the Polilight PL500 (ALS) that is used to illuminate trace evidence
once it has been treated by the reagent. The current Alternate Light Source can only shine a beam
of approximately one foot in diameter and has to be applied at close range. Although this will be
useful in the lab, it is not sufficient when processing a large crime scene. The Polilight PL500
will illuminate entire walls and rooms and will allow investigators to photograph the evidence so
that they can recorded in a medium that is visible to the naked eye. The Polilight also has proven
beneficial in locating old bruises and wounds on victims even after they have healed and are no
longer visible. The Polilight due to its range of light frequencies also allows the evidence
technicians to locate other fluids and fiber evidence. This piece of equipment will cost
$16,625.00 but is essential in illuminating trace evidence.
Total Project Cost:
$19,395.00
