REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM <br />Agenda Date Requested: 01/13/03 <br />Requested By: chi <br />Department: Police <br />Report: Resolution: Ordinance: <br />Exhibits: <br />Exhibits: <br />Annrouriation <br />Source of Funds: Motor Pool Fund <br />Account Number: 009-5253-521-8050 <br />Amount Budgeted: S21432.00 <br />Amount Requested: <br />Budgeted Item: YES NO <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br />On December 2, 2002 at 6:55 pm an Officer was driving Patrol Unit 53-83, a 97 Ford marked unit, and was <br />responding to a disturbance with weapon involved. The Officer was traveling Westbound on Fairmont when a <br />young man driving a 94 GMC pickup pulled out in front of the officer from the crossover at Driftwood. The Officer <br />took immediate evasive action to avoid striking the Pickup but in the process over steered his vehicle causing it to <br />go into the median between the East and Westbound lanes of Fairmont. The Patrol Unit upon hitting the median <br />rolled over in the median. Due to the Officers action in avoiding the collision no one was injured; however, the <br />Patrol Unit 53-83 was heavily damaged. Harris County Constables Officer Precinct 8 investigated the accident per <br />Police Department policy. <br />The vehicle was evaluated and totaled Patrol Unit 53-83 is scheduled to be replaced in FY 04 Budget and is fully <br />funded in the current Motor Pool Fund, Account # 009-5253-521-8050. Lawrence Marshal Ford, who was awarded <br />the bid for the marked police units purchased in this budget year, when contacted by Purchasing agreed to honor <br />their previous bid price for a replacement unit ($21,332.00). <br />The Police Department is requesting a budget amendment to the Motor Pool Fund to purchase a replacement for <br />Patrol Unit 53-83 during this budget year. <br />Action Required by Council: <br />Authorization to amend the Motor Pool Fund to purchase a 2003 Ford marked Patrol Unit from Lawrence Marshal <br />Ford to replace Police Unit. 53-83 a 1997 Ford this budget year. <br />Aauroved for City Council Agenda <br />1 1 I I <br />'-C-ity Manager <br />Date <br />
