• <br />PPG Industries, Inc 1901 Ave H & South 16th St. La Porte, TX 77571 <br />September 21, 2005 <br />LEPC <br />Attn: Jeff Suggs <br />604 West Fairmont Parkway <br />LaPorte, Tx 77571 <br />Re: PPG Industries Notification of Reportable Release <br />Dear Mr. Suggs, <br />This information is submitted pursuant to 40 CFR § 355.40(b)(3). <br />On Saturday, September 10, 2005, a receiver containing miscellaneous chlorofomates at the PPG <br />plant in LaPorte over -pressurized, resulting in releases of certain compounds to the environment. <br />The release began at approximately 13:30 and continued for approximately 45 minutes. <br />The compounds released and estimates of the quantities released are as follows: <br />Compound <br />cas number <br />Ibs <br />ethene <br />74-85-1 <br />380 <br />2-butene <br />107-01-7 <br />234 <br />2-ethyl-1-hexene <br />1632-16-2 <br />338 <br />propene <br />115-07-1. <br />258 <br />methyl chloride <br />74-87-3 <br />275 <br />chlorobenzene <br />108-90-7 <br />37 <br />hydrochloric acid <br />7647-01-0 <br />1057 <br />carbon dioxide <br />124-38-9 <br />1436 <br />Please note that we estimated a release of 9791bs of hydrochloric acid from the receiver itself. <br />The figure above includes an additional 78 lbs. of hydrochloric acid, which was derived from <br />modeling the amount that volatized to the atmosphere from concrete and acid brick containment <br />areas. <br />None of the above compounds are listed as Extremely Hazardous Substances under 40 CFR Part <br />355. <br />The release occurred to the air. <br />AUS01:395066.1 <br />
