<br />As you are aware, the impact of Tropical Storm Erin has drawn much attention to drainage
<br />issues throughout the City of La Porte. During a recent meeting, the City Council appointed a
<br />sub-committee, consisting of four members of Council, to focus on possible short and long
<br />term actions to assist in alleviating some conditions that prevent our drainage systems from
<br />operating at peak design efficien9" We sincerely appreciate Mr. John Saavedra's attendance
<br />at that meeting.

<br />The fIrst meeting of the drainage and flooding sub-committee was held on September 17,
<br />2007. One of the important conclusions of that meeting was the need for inter-jurisdictional
<br />cooperation and coordination with HCFCD; Precinct 2, Harris County and State /Federal
<br />Agencies in order to put into effect any meaningful long term solutions. As such, the
<br />committee has extended an invitation to you or your representative to attend future meetings
<br />so that all efforts to improve drainage in La Porte can be weighed and balanced with the
<br />interests and actions taken by other jurisdictions.
<br />
<br />The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for September 24, 2007, 5 PM at City Hall,
<br />604 W. Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas 77571, in Council Chambers. We apologize for
<br />the short notice for this meeting but hope to establish a schedule for future meetings in a more
<br />timely manner. We look forward to coordinating our efforts with you in hopes of having a
