L J <br />i <br />Bay Area cities or other entities that have frozen taxes for seniors and disabled citizens <br />include Seabrook, Pasadena, Dickinson, Texas City, Santa Fe, Baytown, Galveston <br />County, Clear Creek Independent School District and College of the Mainland. <br />The City of Friendswood tabled the second reading of an ordinance enacting a tax <br />freeze on Oct. 17. <br />After deliberating for one hour in executive session, the City Council decided to hold off <br />on appealing a judge's ruling that the Houston Chronicle and the Galveston County <br />Daily News may sell newspapers at the corner of FM 518 and Interstate 45. <br />Only Councilmen Jon Keeney and Rusty Tidwell voted for the original motion to moue <br />forward immediately with the appeal. <br />"I would really like to see us hold our ground on some things," Tidwell said. <br />After the motion to appeal failed, Councilman Tad Nelson suggested that the Council <br />wait for more information on the case before taking action. That motion passed 5-2, <br />with Tidwell and Keeney opposed. <br />In other action, the City Council: <br />n Voted to reappoint Judge Kerri Foley as municipal court judge. <br />n Agreed to have only one City Council meeting in November, on Nov. 8, and one <br />meeting in December, on Dec. 13. <br />n Accepted a $9, 721 grant from the State of Texas to conduct seat belt and speed <br />enforcement in 2005 and 2006. <br />n Amended the Master Transportation Plan to remove plans for a bridge crossing the <br />creek at Palomino Lane. <br />n Renewed the current IESI garbage contract. <br />
