PRESENT CHARTER REVISION COMMITTEE RECO~~NDATION FOR <br />CONSIDERATION (CONTINUED) <br /> <br />With no further questions for Mr. Pfeiffer, Mayor Meza excused <br />Mr. Pfeiffer from the meeting. The entire Commission expressed <br />thanks to Mr. Pfeiffer for his efforts. <br /> <br />Mayor Meza stated that the recommendation from the Charter <br />Revision Committee had been received and the ordinance read <br />in full, and asked for comments. <br /> <br />Commissioner Tomerlin stated that he was aware of the problems <br />of the Charter Revision Committee and he appreciated the efforts <br />of the Commissioners, the Mayor, and the City Administrator for <br />going to Washington, D. C., 'trying to negotiate a settlement <br />to this situation. After giving it much thought, although there <br />were some areas that he didn't basically agree with, felt that ' <br />the conclusion of what had happened, that what the Charter <br />Revision Committee had recommended to the Council, is, under <br />the circumstances, in the best interest of the City. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Tomerlin, seconded by Commissioner Simons <br />to approve Ordinance No. 1186 as read. <br /> <br />Motion carried by the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: Commissioners Tomerlin and Simons. <br />NAYS: Commissioners Kibodeaux and Cline. <br /> <br />Mayor Meza voted aye to break the tie. <br /> <br />CAPTION: AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE REVISIONS TO THE HOME RULE <br />CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY <br />TO SUBMIT THE PORTIONS OF SUCH WHICH AFFECT VOTING, ALONG WITH <br />SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION, TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF <br />JUSTICE FOR APPROVAL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />+ <br /> <br />+ <br /> <br />+ <br /> <br />5. CONSIDER APPROVING PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 1187 - ORDINANCE <br />CALLING AN ELECTION IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE TO CONSIDER THE <br />CONSOLIDATION OF THE CITIES OF LOMAX AND LA PORTE, TEXAS; <br />MAKING FINDINGS OF FACT; PROVIDING FOR THE USE OF VOTING <br />MACHINES; APPOINTING' ELECTION OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR METHOD <br />AND DATES OF ABSENTEE VOTING; PROVIDING FOR RETURN AND CANVASS <br />OF VOTES OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1975; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING A SAVINGS <br />CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />
