CJ <br />NIINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />AND PUBLIC HEARING OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 11, 1999 <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 p.m. <br />Members of City Council Present: Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Chuck Engelken, <br />Howard Ebow, Peter Griffiths, Alton Porter, Deods Gay, Charlie Young, Jerry Clarke <br />and Mayor Norman Malone. <br />Members of Council Absent: None. <br />Members of Cb Executive Staff and City Employees Present: City Manager Robert <br />T. Herrera, Assistant City Manager John Joerns, Assistant City Manager Jeff <br />Litchfield, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Martha Gillett, Director of <br />Public Works Steve Gillett, Director of Administrative Services Louis Rigby, Street <br />Superintendent Orville Burgess, Assistant Public Works Director Buddy Jacobs, Human <br />Resources Manager Sydney Upchurch, Purchasing Manager Susan Kelley, Parks and <br />Recreation Director Stephen Barr, Police Chief Bobby Powell, Planner Masood Malik, <br />Street Supervisor Gene Emmons, Administrative Assistant Carol Buttler and Planning <br />Director Doug Kneupper. <br />Others Present: Spero Pomonis, Kay Scott, Doug Graham, Mrs. Doug Graham, Mr. <br />and Mrs. Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Joiner, Oliver Stillwell, Joe Furlow, Barry Beasley, <br />Colleen Hicks and a number of La Porte Citizens. <br />2. Reverend Oliver Stillwell delivered the Invocation. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Regular Meeting on December 28, <br />1998. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Engelken to approve the minutes of the Regular <br />Meeting on December 28. 1998 as presented. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The <br />motion carried unanimously. <br />Ayes: Engelken, Ebow, Porter, Gay, Young, Clarke and Mayor Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Sutherland and Griffiths. <br />4. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND <br />TAX PAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL <br />The following citizens addressed Council: <br />Spero Pomonis, 218 Bay Colony Dr., La Porte, Texas, addressed City Council <br />regarding his dissatisfaction with cable T.V. service provided to La Porte citizens. <br />
