G • <br />Gulf Cities T.'ayor Sharp presented the annual report of the i-~ouston I~atura.l vas Corp., <br />Report Gulf Cities Division, for the year 194n. Notion, by RufP,second by Agee, <br />that this report be e.ceepted and placed on file. <br />C~~rried. <br />FHA Defense T:ayor Sharp reported that he had wired Rep. Albert Thomas, asking that <br />Lar'orte be included in the ?iJ~~ Defense Housir_g Area. The I~.ayor read a <br />telegram from Rep. Thomas, in reply, who said. he would wire Benny Starks, <br />Chief Underwriter of the Houston ~?rea FHA, requesting that La Porte be <br />in eluded, and suggested that the La Forte City officials do liketr:ise. <br />:vTOtion by Ruff, second by Johnson, that the City attorney be instructed <br />to write Benny Starks in regard to this matter. <br />Carried. <br />Benson The City secretary presented a letter front retiring Alderman. P.L. Benson. <br />T;otion by Ruff, second by Johnson that the Secretary be instructed to <br />write a letter to Tv:r Benson, to be si~ned by the City ~%ouncil and to <br />place his letter on file. <br />Carried. <br />Election The Nay or at this time presented the report of the City election held <br />r-pril 1,1941, at the City hall, as follows: <br />For Alderman to serve t~~~o years <br />C.M. Agee 231 votes <br />F.L. Benson 127 votes <br />J.T?. Johnson 249 votes <br />Chas.F. Tdorris 241 votes <br />Fred ~"balker 1 vote <br />Total votes cast 328 <br /> <br /> <br />0 <br />r:Iotion by Ruff, second by Roark, that C.^r^. Agee, J.A~.~ohnson and Chas. <br />F. rlorris, for Aldermen, the candidates receiving the highest nur,;ber of <br />votes, be declared elected to serve as Aldermen for two years and trat the <br />election returns be placed on file. <br />Carried. <br />'bath of The newly elected officials were sworn in and administered the oath of <br />~Cff ice office by T:ayor Sharp. <br />T~'otion b~,* .Agee, second b;J Ruff, tt,at the f;`_eeting adjourn. <br />Carried. <br />The new City ~ounci.l was called to order by Itlayor Sharp with the following .~ <br />~adermen and City officials present; C.T~1.
