• MINUTES • <br />LA PORTS CITY COUNCIL M~~'ETING <br />JANi?ARY 2.,1938, 8 : 00 P.M. <br />i <br />Meeting was galled to order by Mayor Sharp with the following <br />Alder~en responding to roll Dell: P.L. Benson, F.R. Boyle, <br />J.J. Roark, Fred R. Ruff. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />Huweiler bill The City Secretary asked that the payment of bill of Huweiler Lumber <br />ratified Co. dated December 31,1937, which was overlooked at the January 10 <br />meeting but paid on Jan,11;1938, by warrant No.1511, be ratified. <br />Motion by Boyle, second by Roark, that payment of Huweiler Lumber Co <br />bill in the amount of X0.75 be ratified. 8arried <br />Worthington Motion by Boyle, second by Ruff, that one third of the bala.noe of the <br />Gammon Worthington-Gammon Meter Co. of X206.25 be paid, the amount being <br />~E,g.?5, Carried. <br />A'ote T:gotion by Roark, second by Benson, that the Mayor and City Secretary <br />First Nat.Brik be authorized to draw a warrant on the General Fund for payment of the <br />sum of X600.00 and interest to date in the sum of $27.00 on the note <br />of X1,200.00 due the First National Bank on March 1.,1938, and that the <br />balance of $600.00 be reneaved for 90 days from date of this payment with <br />EFf. per annum interest from date of note. Carried. <br />Boatrigr~t Motion by Ruff, second by Roark, that the letter of commendation to <br />C~.~,ud Boatright,Contractor, which the City Secretary was instructed <br />at the January 10th meeting of the Council, to write, with copy to <br />be mailed to the Texas League of Municipalities, be tabled. <br />Carried <br />Letter to I~~otion by Boyle, second by Ruff, that the Mayor be authorized to <br />Senators write letters to our two State Senators and Congressional Repre- <br />sentative Albert Thomas, opposing the Homestead Exe~ttption bill <br />proposed by Senator Sheppard. Carried. <br />hunt Motion by Ruff, second by Benson, that the matter of delinquent tax- <br />Block 305 es on Lots 20 and 21, Block 305, La Porte, owned by ;Y.W. Hunt, be <br />tabled until further information can be obtained in bannection with <br />the purchase of the lots from the City• Carried. <br />'Mater 1~orks Motion by Boyle, second by Benson, that the Chairman of the Water <br />School Committee, Fred R. Ruff, be sent as a delegate from the Counoil to <br />~ _ the Twentieth Annual ~laterworks Short Course to be held at A.& M. <br />College,College Station, February 1~. to 19 inclusivei with ~35•~ <br />expense account allowed. Carried. <br />over <br />
