<br />SPECIAL MEETING
<br />OF THE LA PORTS CITY COUNCIL
<br />February 26, 1938 -10;00 A. M.
<br />A special meeting of the Couaoil was called to order by Mayor Sharp. All
<br />members of the Council having been duly notified of such meeting, the fol -
<br />lowing members were present; C. M. Agee, P. L. Benson, Frank Boyle, Fred
<br />Buff. Alderman J. J. Roark was absent.
<br />Am.I,aF. The Mayor stated that the meeting was called for the purpose, as the Council
<br />had been duly notified, to hear the report of the committee, composed of
<br />Alderman Boyle and Alderman Ruff and Fire Chief Guy R. Hamilton, which had
<br />inspected the American-La France fire truck at Sweet~aa.ter, Texas, and to de-
<br />cide upon ways and means of financing the purchase of Such truck.
<br />A detailed oral report was given by each of the three members of such carn-
<br />mittee, in which they stated that, upon authority given them at the previous
<br />meeting, they had agreed, on behalf of the City, to purchase the truok, in its
<br />present condition, at Sweetwater, Texas, for the sum of X1,000.00 cash.
<br />Sank Mr. R. R. Busch, direotor and loan committee memaber of the First National Bank
<br />of La Porte, ie~ae~s, was called before the meeting and, upon inquiry from the
<br />Mayor with reference to a loan by the Bank to the City, for the purchase price
<br />of the trunk and necessary repairs, advised the City definitely that the Bank
<br />would loan the City the amount required to purchase the truck and make the
<br />needed repairs, estimated to be a total of X1500.00 or X1600.00, for a period
<br />of six months, at 6/ per annum interest, with a chattel mortgage on the truck
<br />to secure the payment of the Cityta note or warrant.
<br />Fire Chief Hamilton, as well as the other members of the committee, reoom-
<br />mended and requested that the Council ratify and confirm their purchase of
<br />the truck, after outlining the need for the eq~iipment and the saving in in-
<br />suranae premiums to the property owners of La Porte. Alderman Agee made a
<br />motion, second by Alderman Benson, that the City Council confirm and ratify,
<br />in all respects, the purchase of the truck by the Council and that the Mayor
<br />and City Secretary b® authorised and instruoted to sign the contract of pur-
<br />chase submitted by the American-La France and Foamite Industries, Ina., ea
<br />presented at the meeting by Mr. A. B. Busboy, the Campany~s representative.
<br />The motion was carried by the unanimous vote of all those present.
<br />Upon motion by Alderman Agee, second by Alderman Boyle, and carried by the
<br />ayes of those present, Alderman Boyle and Charles Filson were appointed as a
<br />comffiittee to go to Dallas, Texas, aaaept delivery of the truck, with power and
<br />authority to make any and all needed repairs and purchases of equipment which
<br />they, in their judgment, deemed expedient and to the best advantage of the
<br />City; to return the truck to La Porte; that their expenses be paid byr the City;
<br />and that the Mayor and City Seoretary be instructed and authorized to issue a
<br />warrant in the sum of X60.00 to apply on such expenses.
<br />Alderman Agee made a motion that the Mayor and City Secretary issue a warrant
<br />in the sum of X36.00, to defray the balance of the expenses on the committee
