<br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />i <br />OF THE LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />I~~ARCH 9th,193s, a : oo P.P1~. <br />Meeting was called to order by Mayor Sharp, with the follu~ring <br />Alder~en responding to roll call: C.M. Agee, F.F. Boyle, J.J. Roark, <br />Fred R. Ruff. <br />The Mayor stated that the purpose of ,the meeting was to arrange a com- <br />promise in the Baldwin suit and appoint an attorney to act in the suit, <br />also to ratify the purchase of the neap Axerican La France Fire Truck and <br />complete arrangezRents with the Bank for payiaent for same. <br />a <br />After some discussion of the Baldwin matter t't~e~@a letter was <br />read from Attorney Jno.S. Kiibler advising the City Council that Mr <br />~d.P,'`. Streetman had called him in the matter and had been authorized by <br />Mr Baldwin to make the City the following proposition to settle the suit: <br />Baldwin That the City fix the two manholes on Baldwin's property so <br />prposal that they will be securely closed and so as not to overflow; that the <br />City issue warrants to Baldwin in the sum of X750.00, apply a sufficient <br />amount thereof on Baldwin's delinquent taxes and the balance of the war- <br />~~ rants to be applied by Baldwin on future taxes on the property. <br />Reject Potion by Boyle, second by Ruff, that the City reject the proposal of <br />eos~promise by F.T. Baldwin's Attorney, W.T. Streetman. <br />Carried. <br />City's Pdotion by Ruff, second by Roark, that W.M. Streetman be notified that <br />proposal the City of La Porte rejected the Baldwin proposition to comproa:ise <br />his suit and that he be advised that the City is willing to fix the <br />man holes so they will not over flow and pay Mr Baldwin the sure of <br />X50.00 to cover any other damage he may have sustained on his property <br />in question. Carried <br />Kiibler Motion by Ruff, second by Boyle, that Jno.S. Kiibler be employed to <br />Baldwin handle the Baldwin case for the City, subject to the withdrawal of <br />case ~~t.NI.
