Council considered approving the minutes of the special called <br />meeting held May 1, 1989• <br />Motion was made b~ Councilgerson Shipp to approve the minutes <br />of the MaX 1 meeting as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Cooper. The motion carried, 6 ayes, 0 nays, 2 abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Shipp, Gay, Clarke and <br />Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Councilpersons Porter and Skelton <br />6. Council canvassed the results of tYle May 6, 1989, general <br />election, and considered an ordinance declaring the results. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1643 - AN ORDINANCE <br />DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE ON MAY 6, 1989, FOR THE ELECTION OF COUNCILPERSON AT <br />LARGE, POSITION A; COUNCILPERSON, DISTRICT 4; AND A <br />COUNCILPERSON, DISTRICT 5; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN <br />MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Waters to adopt Ordinance <br />164 as read by the Citv Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Porter. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Porter, Shipp, Gay, <br />Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />7. Judge J. B. Williamson gave the Oath of Office to B. Don <br />Skelton, elected to the office of Councilperson, Dyselected.to <br />Mayor Malone gave the Oath of Office to Deotis Gay, <br />the office of Councilperson, District 4. The elected <br />officials were seated at the Council table and presented their <br />Certificates of Election by the City Secretary. <br />8. The Mayor proclaimed the week of r4ay 13 through 20 as <br />"Scouting for Food Week" and the week of May 7 through 13 as <br />"Suicide Prevention Week." <br />9. There were no citizens wishing to address Council. <br />
