The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Deotis Gay <br />at 7:02 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Pro Tem Deotis Gay, <br />Councilpersons Linda Westergren, Ed Matuszak, Lindsay Pfeiffer, <br />B. Don Skelton <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilpersons Norman Malone, <br />Kevin Graves, Mayor Virginia Cline <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Jack Owen, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, Director <br />of Administrative Services Bob Herrera, Director of Community <br />Development John Joerns, Police Chief Herb Freeman, Assistant <br />Director of Public Works Steve Gillett, Assistant Fire Chief <br />• John Dunham <br />Others Present: Terry Robbins, Bob Biarnesen, Rhonda Brock, <br />Wanda Boyd, Paula Bridges, Mary Hanks, John and Jayne Longley, <br />Arlene Arends from the Bayshore Sun-Broadcaster, Linnea Schlo- <br />bohm from the Baytown Sun, Allan Kimball from the Houston Post, <br />Joe McQuade from the Houston Chronicle, representatives from <br />Channel 13 news, approximately 80 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by City Attorney Knox Askins. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the regular meeting <br />held July 18, 1984. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve the minute s_ <br />of the July 18 meeting as presented. Second by Councilperson <br />Matuszak. The motion carried, 4 ayes, 0 nays, 1 abstain. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Westergren, <br />Pro Tem Gay <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Councilperson Pfeiffer <br />on 7-18) <br />Matuszak, Skelton and Mayor <br />(was not present at meeting <br />4. Mayor Pro Tem Gay read a resolution of appreciation for John <br />• Longley, recently resigned as Councilperson, .District 2,~ and <br />presented the framed resolution and a plaque of appreciation <br />to Mr. Longley. <br /> <br />Mr. Longley expressed his thanks to Council. <br />
