City Commission eras called to order by the Mayor Pro- <br />Tem Jas. S, Crate, Jr., in the absence of Mayor H. J. Pf eiffer, with the follow- <br />ing members and city "officials present: Commissioner Win. P. Jones, City Attorney <br />Carl C. Patrick, Supt. of Public Works Raleigh Er-~rin, and J. E. Muldoon, City <br />Clerk. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />Mr. C. J. Lefferty, District Manager, and Mr. W. E. Hornbuckle, Jr., with the <br />Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, appeared before the Commission in connec- <br />tion with their application for an adjustment in the rates charged for local <br />telephone service in it,'s La Porte exchange. <br />After much discussion, tha following action was taken: Motion by Jones, second <br />by Crate, to table..application of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company f or <br />a rate adjustment, until Mayor Pfeiffer's return. <br />Carried. <br />The City Clerk read a letter from the Dickinson Ice &-Fuel Company, in which <br />they requested the curb removed in f ront of their property on West Main. The <br />Commission instructed the City Attorney to answer this letter. <br />Mr. Conrad Douglas,. with the Engineering firm of Douglas and Mansfield, appear- <br />ed before the Commission and requested this `his firm be retained by the City <br />as their engineers. The Commission advised him that at_the present time they <br />did°not need an engineer, but would in the near future, as soon as a study be <br />made of the city's present needs. <br />Mr. Douglas offered to make a preliminary report based on rough field notes, <br />which xould help to point the gray as to whether additions tot he water and <br />saver systems were justifiable or required. For this report therevoould be <br />no cost or charge to the City. The Commission stated that it Bould be of <br />some benefit to them iri their survey of the needs of the City. <br />J. 0. Rollins, Fire Chief,"appeared before the Commission, and requested a <br />part of the Firemen's Prize Money for the Volunteer Firemen's general fund. <br />The Commission unanimously authorized the City Clerk to issue a check to the <br />La Porte Volunteer Fire Department for X350.00. <br />The Commission unanimously ratified the City Clerk's order to the Eureka Fire <br />Hose for 600' of 2~" DJ Hose, and 300' of la" DJ Hosa. <br />Carried . <br /> <br />
