<br />MIlWTES - REGULAR MEETING <br />LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION -JANUARY 7TH, 1955 <br />10:00 A. M. <br />Regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order by Mayor M.D.Burgin, <br />with the follo~ring members and city officials present: Commissioners L. R. Rigby <br />and H. P. Pfeiffer, Special Counsel Jno. S. Kiihler, and City Clerk J.E. Muldoon. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />J.E. Muldoon, City Clerk, asked the C o:nmis Sion for advise on paying the aumers of <br />the Grandview Avenue water line, moneys paid to the City by other property owns <br />for connecting to said water line.. He was advised that he must satisfy himself <br />that the present oRners of the property also were given ov~ership in the Grand- <br />viex Avenue water line, before paying them any money. <br />Mayor M. D. Burgin read a letter from Toomey, Toomey and. Toomey, Attorr:eys at <br />lair, requesting the City to waive the taxes which it claims on property formerly <br />ovaned by the .State of Texas by virtue t of a tax sale, <br />This matter was referred to Jno. S. Kiibler, Special Counsel for the City, far <br />his opinion. <br />Motion by Rigby, second by Pfeiffer, to redeem Street Improveme~ Time 'arrant, <br />Series 1953, No. l.41, from the asst Nat3.ona1 Bank of La Porte, far $501.44, 3.n- <br />cluding interest.. <br />Carried. <br />Motion by R3.gby, second by Pfeiffer, authorizing the City Clerk to correcterror <br />in moneys inadvertently deposited to Interest and Since ~ Street Borx3 ~iZnd, 1954, <br />and deposit same in G~eral Fund. <br />Carried. <br />The Commission held a discussion on Social Security for city employees. It eras <br />the consensus of opinion of the Commission that this matter betaken up when <br />setting the 1955-56 Budget. <br />Motion by Pfeiffer, seconvl by Rigby, instructing the Public Vforks Supt. to have <br />moneys collected in advance before installing any culverts to individuals, or <br />the individual can purchase his oven c ulverts, but it must pass city specifica- <br />tions. <br />Carried. <br />The Commission unanimously instructed the City Clerk to write letters to those per- <br />sons who have not paid far culverts, that the City will pick them up unless arrange- <br />ments are made to take care of this obligation; also to write letters to those <br />contractors who are damaging the City streets by their construction. <br />Carried. <br />2~9 <br />
