• <br />• <br /> <br />MINUTES - SPECIAL CALLED MEETING <br />OF THE <br />LA PORTE CITY COMMISSION - LA PORTE, TEXAS <br />AUGUST 27, 1980 <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Meza at 7:30 P.M. <br />MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION PRESENT: Mayor J.J. Meza, Com- <br />missioner John Tomerlin, Commissioner I.J. Kibodeaux, Commission- <br />er Virginia Cline, Commissioner Tom Simons, Commissioner Norman <br />Malone. <br />MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION ABSENT: None <br />OTHER CITY OFFICIALS PRESENT: City Administrator James R. Hudgens, <br />City Attorney Knox Askins, City Clerk Betty Waters, Police Chief <br />• Freeman, Chief Inspector Paulissen, Fire Marshal Hickenbottom, <br />Parks Director Sherwood. <br />Mayor Meza stated this meeting was called to canvas the returns of <br />the Proposed City Charter Election held August 23, 1980. <br />The return sheets from Voting Precinct 1 at the La Porte High School <br />were reviewed by the City Commission. There were 339 votes cast, <br />196 votes for the adoption of the Amended City Charter and 143 votes <br />against the adoption of the Amended City Charter. <br />The return sheets from Voting Precinct 2 at Baker Elementary were <br />canvassed by the City Commission. There were 104 votes cast, 97 <br />votes were for adoption of the Amended City Charter and 37 votes <br />were against the adoption of the Amended City Charter. <br />The return sheets were canvassed by the City Commission for Voting <br />Precinct 3 at Lomax Civic Center. There were 56 votes cast, 46 <br />votes for the adoption of the Amended City Charter and 10 against <br />the Amended City Charter. <br />Total votes cast in this election: 472 for and 252 against. <br />ORDINANCE N0.1224 WAS READ BY THE CITY ATTORNEY. AN ORDINANCE <br />DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION ON THE QUESTION OF ADOPTION <br />• OF AMENDMENTS TO THE HOME RULE CITY CHARTER OF THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE; HELD TN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON AUGUST 23, 1980. <br />
