Mayor Smith opened the public hearing on the <br />proposed budget for the fiscal year 1970-71. <br />It was ascertained that a notice of this <br />hearing was published in the official news- <br />paper of the City on August 27, 1970. <br />Mayor Smith read a recap of the proposed <br />budget. He stated the budget totaling <br />$1,020,108.00 was the largest in La Porte's <br />history. <br />Mayor Smith asked if there were any questions <br />and there being none, declared the hearing <br />closed. <br />+ + + <br />4. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Neville addressed the <br />Commission in regards to the water and sewer <br />rates. <br />~ brief discussion was held, in which it was <br />pointed out that the City must maintain a 1.5 <br />to one ratio between income and expenditures <br />in order to secure revenue bonds. <br />The Commission stated they would make a comparison <br />study between a flat sewer rate and the present <br />percentage rate and present their findings at a <br />later meeting. <br />+ + + <br />5. Commissioner Thomas stated that one contract was <br />still to be let on the Northside Building addition <br />and he would have the figures on the addition at <br />the next meeting. <br />+ + + <br />6. Commissioner Thomas stated two bids had been <br />received for the dismantling of lights on the <br />football field on South Broadway. Pfeiffer- <br />Grambrell Electric Company bid $620 and Bay- <br />shore Electric Company bid $653. <br />Motion by Commissioner Thomas, seconded by <br />Commissioner Crofoot to accept the low bid <br />from Pfeiffer-Grambrell Electric Company. <br />Motion carried by the following tote: <br />Ayes: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux, Burgin <br />and Crofoot. <br />Nays: None. <br />+ + + <br />
