,~ <br />Regular Meeting - 3/15/~l - con~nued <br />City of La Porte to be used as a park. Mr. Pfeiffer <br />stated the block is bounded on the West by Virginia <br />Street, on the East by Iowa and on the North by"K" <br />Street and since there were a lot of children in <br />this area the land would be put to a good use and <br />good purpose as a park. He also asked the City to <br />forego taxes from January 1st to the present day <br />and to have the City Attorney prepare the necessary <br />papers. <br />The Commission expressed their appreciation and <br />thanked Mr. Pfeiffer for the offer. <br />Motion by Comm. Thomas, seconded by Comm. Kibodeaux <br />to accept the donation of Block 293, to be used as <br />a city park, from Mr. and Mrs. George Gambrell anal <br />Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Pfeiffer, for the City to forego <br />taxes from January 1, 19'71 and the City Attorney to <br />prepare the necessary papers. Motion carried by the <br />following; vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux, Burgin and <br />Crofoot. <br />NAYS : IVTone . <br />• <br />+ + + <br />3. Mayor Smith read an ordinance to amend Chapter 5, <br />Section 5-28 of the City Code by including cats. <br />Mrs. Betty Higgins addressed the Commission, as a <br />cat owner,to protest the passing of the ordinance. <br />She presented a petition signed by fifty(50) residents <br />protesting the passage of the ordinance. <br />Mr. A. E. Willis addressed the Commission to protest <br />passing the ordinance. <br />A discussion was held on the existing animal code, <br />the vaccination of cats and enforcement of the <br />existing dog lease law. <br />Motion by Comm. Kibodeaux, seconded by Comm. Crofoot <br />to table the proposed admendment. Motion carried <br />by the following vote: <br />AYES: Commissioners Thomas, Kibodeaux, Burgin and <br />Crofoot. <br />NAYS: None. <br />+ + + <br />
