• • <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 22, 1990 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Betty Waters, Mike Cooper, Bob McLaughlin, <br />Alton Porter, Deotis Gay (arrived at 7:40 P.M.), B. Don <br />Skelton, Jerry Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: Councilperson Ed Matuszak <br />Members of City Staff Present: City Manager Bob Herrera, City <br />Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie Black, Assistant <br />City Manager John Joerns, Assistant to the City Manager Janie <br />Bais, Director of Public Works Steve Gillett, Police Chief <br />Charles Smith, Human Resources Manager/Purchasing Manager <br />Louis Rigby, Fire Marshal Paul Hickenbottom, Finance Officer <br />Linda Waugh, Director of Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood, <br />Fire Chief Joe Sease <br />Others Present: Sid Durbin, Travtech 2000; Charles Huber; <br />John Black, Bayshore Sun; 14 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Waters. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Public Hearing <br />and Regular Meeting of Council held January 8, 1990. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve the January <br />8 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson Waters. The <br />motion carried, 7 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, McLaughlin, Porter, <br />Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. The Mayor presented the Employee of the Quarter Award for <br />September, October and November, 1989, to Carlos Vega. Mr. <br />Vega's supervisor, Orville Burgess, presented Mr. Vega with <br />a plaque. <br />5. At this time, the Mayor called Mr. Sid Durbin to the front. <br />Mr. Durbin owns and operates Travtech 2000, and has generously <br />offered to donate 10 percent of his receipts for leisure <br />travel arrangements from La Porte residents, to the senior <br />citizens and handicapped residents of La Porte. The Mayor <br />thanked Mr. Durbin on behalf of the Council. <br />
