~ 1 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />MARCH 26, 1990 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Malone at 6:00 P.M. <br />Members of City Council Present: Mayor Norman Malone, <br />Councilpersons Betty Waters, Mike Cooper, Ed Matuszak, Bob <br />McLaughlin, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, B. Don Skelton, Jerry <br />Clarke <br />Members of City Council Absent: None <br />Members of City Staff Present: Assistant City Manager John <br />Joerns, City Attorney Knox Askins, City Secretary Cherie <br />Black, Assistant to the City Manager Janie Bais, Finance <br />Officer Linda Waugh, Police Chief Charles Smith, Director of <br />Public Works Steve Gillett, Fire Chief Joe Sease, Director of <br />Parks and Recreation Stan Sherwood, Purchasing Manager/Human <br />Resources Manager Louis Rigby, Director of Community <br />Development Joel Albrecht, Golf Course Manager/Professional <br />Alex Osmond, Revenue Collections Supervisor Marilyn Fillip, <br />Golf Course Superintendent Dennis Hlavaty <br />Others Present: Eugene Abbot, Abbott Development Company; <br />John Black, Bayshore Sun; 23 citizens <br />2. The invocation was given by Councilperson Clarke. <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the public hearing <br />and regular meeting of Council held March 12, 1990. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Skelton to approve the March <br />12 minutes as presented. Second by Councilperson McLaughlin. <br />The motion carried, 9 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Waters, Cooper, Matuszak, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />4. Mr. Eugene Abbott addressed Council regarding utility service <br />outside city limits in Deer Park. <br />After his presentation, Councilperson Clarke requested that <br />this item be put on the agenda for the next Council meeting. <br />It was decided that the item would be a workshop item, and put <br />on the regular agenda for consideration by Council. <br />The following citizens addressed Council regarding the <br />proposed smoking ordinance: Jolene Wickel, Kathy Emrick, Jan <br />Emrick and Della Lorfing. <br />
