<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Minutes, Public Hearings and Regular Meeting <br />La Porte city council <br />April 9, 1990, Page 2 <br /> <br />6. Gene Newton, representing Dow Chemical Company, addressed <br />Council regarding industries' commitment to the environment. <br />He presented each Council member with a parchment copy of the <br />commitment pledge, and presented the city with an engraved <br />plaque signed by managers of area industries. <br /> <br />7. Public Hearings <br /> <br />A. Request of Fairmont Park Baptist Church for a special <br />conditional use permit to allow placement of a 24-foot <br />by 32-foot portable building to be used for storage. <br /> <br />The Mayor called public hearing "A" to order. Joel <br />Albrecht, Director of Community Development, reviewed <br />the request for Council. He also presented the <br />recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Commission, <br />which was to deny the special conditional use permit. <br /> <br />The Mayor asked for public input; the following persons <br />addressed Council: Reverend Wayne Spears - spoke on <br />issues involved in the request. He is in favor of having <br />the building remain on the church property in its present <br />location. Mike Pizzitola addressed Council in opposition <br />to the permit being granted. Mr. pizzitola lives right <br />by where the building is, and it is right outside his <br />back yard. He feels it is an eyesore. Mrs. Penny <br />Hambrick addressed Council, also in opposition to the <br />permit. She lives close to Mr. pizzitola and agrees that <br />the building is an eyesore and encourages trespassing. <br />Mr. Frank Cline addressed Council in opposition to the <br />permit. <br /> <br />During the course of the public input, Council asked <br />questions of the citizens addressing them. After these <br />questions were answered, the Mayor asked for further <br />input. There being no further input, the Mayor declared <br />pUblic hearing "A" closed. <br /> <br />B. Request of International Cargo Network for a special <br />conditional use permit to allow development of a Planned <br />unit Development (PUD) to consist of a refrigerated <br />warehouse complex. <br /> <br />The Mayor called public hearing "B" to order. Joel <br />Albrecht, Director of Community Development, reviewed the <br />request. <br />
