<br />Minutes, Regular Meeting, La Porte City Council <br />October 8, 1990, Page 2 <br />7. Marie Dennis, Director of the Harbour's Cut Branch of the <br />Seamen's Center and Lou Lawler, Chairman of the Board, <br />presented the annual status report for the Center. Board <br />Member B. Don Skelton made brief comments and complimented <br />Marie and Lou on the hard work they do. <br />8. Council considered an ordinance amending Ordinance 1285-E, <br />Policemen's Civil Service. <br />The City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 1285-F - AN ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1285-E, "AN ORDINANCE IMPLEMENTING <br />POLICEMEN'S CIVIL SERVICE"; ESTABLISHING CLASSIFICATIONS; <br />NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION; <br />ESTABLISHING PAY SCHEDULES; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; CONTAINING A <br />REPEALING CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to adopt Ordinance <br />1285-F as read by the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson <br />Skelton. The motion carried, 8 ayes and 0 nays. <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, McLaughlin, <br />Porter, Gay, Skelton, Clarke and Mayor Malone <br />Nays: None <br />9. This item was deferred until after the executive session. <br />10. Administrative Reports - City Manager Bob Herrera announced <br />that Congressman Mike Andrews will be meeting with the EPA <br />October 1, 18, and 19 to review the Houston Chemical Services <br />hazardous waste permit application. Also, David Melasky, <br />Attorney representing Harris County in the HCS hearing, will <br />be in Commissioners Court on October 9 to request permission <br />to file a motion for a new hearing on the permit application. <br />Councilperson Skelton will attend the meeting to represent the <br />City. <br />11. Councilpersons Sutherland, Cooper, Porter, Gay, Skelton, <br />Clarke and Mayor Malone brought items to Council's attention. <br />12. Executive Session - Council retired into executive session at <br />6:30 P.M. to discuss appointments to various boards and <br />commissions, under V.A.T.S. Article 6252-17, Section 2(G) - <br />Personnel. Council returned to the table at 7:54 P.M. and <br />addressed item 9. <br />9. Council considered appointing members to various City boards <br />and commissions, as follows: <br />
